Modeling agencies for mature models in the US

Five US agencies with a mature or classic board, what each one says it represents, what commission is legal, and the case for listing yourself as well.

13 September 2026 · 7 min read

The modeling agencies for mature models worth applying to in the US are mostly classic or mature divisions inside commercial agencies, plus a few boutiques that represent only older models. Iconic Focus in New York and Los Angeles represents models from 30 to 90 and up. Stetts Model Management and Bella Agency run Classic boards, Heffner Management in Seattle has a classics division, and D2 Models books mature talent in San Diego.

An agency is not the only route, though. Most work for models over 40 is commercial, and a lot of it is booked by the brand directly. Below is what each option does, what the work actually is, what an agency is allowed to charge you, and how to decide between signing and listing yourself.

Best modeling agencies for older models

These five are US agencies that state, on their own sites, that they represent mature models. None of them paid to be here and none of them has any connection to Maxgirls. Apply to the one in the market you can actually get to for a casting, because a New York board rarely books a model who lives in Phoenix.

You will see Grey Model Agency on most lists of senior modeling agencies. It is a well known 50 plus agency, but it is in London, so it only helps a US model who can work in the UK. Online portals that list mature models from anywhere are a different product again: they are directories, and the useful question to ask any of them is whether a real buyer in your city searches it.

Do modeling agencies take older models?

Yes, and more of them than ten years ago. Many commercial agencies in New York and Los Angeles now run a board called Classic or Mature, usually starting somewhere around 35 to 40. What they look for is different from a new faces board: a current, natural look, reliability on set, and a face that matches the customer a brand is selling to. Gray hair and lines are not a problem on these boards. For a lot of the clients booking them, that is the brief.

What agencies take fewer of is models with no clear market. A classic board is a sales tool, and the booker has to be able to picture which client books you. Before you apply, know which category you fit. For most models over 50, that is commercial modeling.

What modeling jobs for older women and men actually are

Mature models are booked because the buyer is older. Healthcare and pharmaceutical advertising, retirement and financial services, insurance, travel and cruise lines, skincare and hair color, home and real estate, and fashion lines sold to women over 40 all need models who look like their customer. So does corporate and stock lifestyle photography, which is shot constantly and rarely makes headlines.

Very little of that is runway or editorial. It is print, e-commerce, video and brand content, and it is the kind of work a brand's in-house team or a production company often books without an agency, because the brief is simple: a believable person in a specific city on a specific date. Mature modeling booked direct sets out who those clients are and what each brief asks for. That is also why how much models get paid for these jobs depends far more on how the images are licensed than on the model's age.

Can you start modeling over 40, 50 or 60?

Yes. Starting at 45 or 60 is normal in commercial modeling, and a first job does not need a portfolio shot by a famous photographer. You need clean, current digitals (natural light, minimal makeup, a headshot, a three quarter and a full length), a short honest bio, and a clear idea of where you live and when you are free. Recent photos matter more for a mature model than for anyone else, because a ten-year-old image wastes a client's casting slot and they remember it.

How much a mature model agency takes, and what it cannot charge

A US agency commonly takes 10 to 20 percent of your fee, and many also add a service charge billed to the client. In New York, the Fashion Workers Act (in effect since 19 June 2025) caps the commission a model management company can take at 20 percent and bars it from charging you a fee to sign. Read the commission, the term, the exclusivity clause and who collects the money before you sign anything.

Legitimate agencies earn when you work. The FTC's long-standing advice is that a real agency is paid after the client pays, and that paying up front to be represented is a warning sign. That is why the scams in this market so often target older models: a mandatory photo package, a paid "workshop", or a listing fee sold as the price of being seen. Our modeling scams checklist covers the patterns, and the Model Alliance keeps its own guide.

Senior modeling agencies near me, or listing yourself?

If there is a classic board in your city and it takes you, sign with it. The access to clients who only book through agencies is real, and a booker holding your rate is worth the commission. The trouble is that most US cities have no classic board at all, and a New York agency will not book you for a Tuesday job if you live 900 miles away.

Plenty of mature models do both where the contract allows it. A Maxgirls profile carries your photos, your categories, your city, your age, your height, a day-rate range and whether you are free this month, and a person reviews it before it goes public. Brands and photographers search the model directory by those fields and email you directly, and we take nothing from the fee.

One practical note once direct work starts: you become the one who invoices, and brands pay on 30, 60 or 90 day terms. Send the invoice the day of the shoot with the agreed usage written on it, and if clients drift past the due date, an invoice follow-up tool that sends the reminders by email and text saves you writing the awkward email yourself.

How to apply to a mature model agency

  1. Check the agency's own submission page and follow it exactly. Most want digitals, height, age and city by an online form, not an email with attachments.
  2. Send three to five current digitals, unretouched, taken in the last three months.
  3. State your city and how far you can travel for a same-week casting.
  4. Do not pay anyone at this stage. No legitimate board charges to review an application.
  5. Meanwhile, publish a profile brands can search, so the weeks spent waiting for a reply are not weeks with no route to work.

If you are under 5 feet 7 inches as well as over 40, the same logic applies twice over: petite modeling without an agency covers the height side of it.
