Model portfolio
Model portfolio that brands can actually search
A portfolio is not a gallery, it is an answer to a question somebody is asking with filters. Twelve well chosen images and six structured fields will get you booked more often than sixty photos in a grid nobody can search.
Start here
What a booker is actually doing
They have a brief with a category, a city, a date and a budget. They open your profile, spend roughly fifteen seconds deciding whether you fit the look, and then check two things: can you work on the date, and is your rate inside the budget. If any of those three answers is missing, the fastest thing they can do is close the tab and open the next one.
Everything below follows from that. Photos answer the first question. Structured fields answer the other two, which is why a portfolio site that is only images loses to a directory listing that carries the same images plus the data.
The images
Twelve images, in this order
Six kinds of frame, twelve files, in the order a booker meets them. The count beside each row is what that entry is worth in the set: they add up, and past twelve the extra images are almost always repeating one of these six.
Cut these
- Heavy retouching. It reads as a different person on set and that costs you the repeat booking.
- Photos more than about two years old, unless nothing has changed.
- Group shots where the booker has to work out which one you are.
- Screenshots of social posts, watermarks and collages.
- Anything you do not hold the rights to publish. It is the most common reason a profile is rejected.
The fields that get you filtered in
- Every category that genuinely applies, not just the most glamorous one.
- The city you can actually work in without travel becoming a negotiation.
- Height in centimetres and a date of birth, so age never goes stale.
- A day-rate range you are willing to be contacted at. A blank rate is a conversation you will have to have anyway, later, with less leverage.
- Your availability state, kept current. It takes one click and it is the difference between a shortlist and a dead end.
