Hand modeling for US models

Hand modeling jobs without an agency

Jewelers, watch brands, nail and skincare labels and product photographers book hands a few days before the shoot, and most of them never call an agency. Put your ring size, glove size, city and rate where they search, and they email you. You keep the whole fee.

Adults only. A person reads every profile before it goes public.

The short answer

Where hand modeling jobs come from

Hand modeling is close-up work for products held, worn or used on camera: rings, watches, nail polish, serums, phones, drinks, food. National TV spots in New York and Los Angeles usually go through a parts agency. Everything else, which is most of the work, is booked by a product photographer, an e-commerce studio or the brand itself, often a few days out and almost always someone local.

So the job is to be findable when they cast. A jeweler in Dallas who needs a size 5 ring finger on Tuesday searches for exactly that. A MaxGirls profile puts your sizes, close-ups, city, availability and day rate on one page, and the client writes to you directly.

What you do not need: a height, a face portfolio, a dress size or any experience. Hand models protect the asset instead. Gloves for dishes and gardening, sunscreen on the backs of the hands, moisturizer several times a day, and no new nicks the week of a booking.

How to become a hand model

Four steps to your first paid hand booking

  1. Two weeks of care Grow nails out evenly, push back cuticles, moisturize morning and night, wear gloves for chores. Hands that look cared for get rebooked.
  2. Shoot the close-ups Daylight by a window, plain background, no rings or polish: backs, palms, profile, a fist, and hands holding a phone, a glass and a small bottle.
  3. Measure and price Ring size on each hand, glove size, and a day-rate range with usage for the client's own site included and ads quoted separately.
  4. Be searchable Publish a profile in beauty and parts with all of it, then send it to the product photographers and jewelers in your city.

Hand model agency alternative

A parts agency, or clients booking you directly

Parts agencies are real and worth applying to if you qualify. They are also few, selective and based in a handful of cities. Here is how the two best known US ones describe themselves, next to a direct profile.

How much do hand models make

The rate, and the usage on top

Ranges shown on ZipRecruiter's hand model listing pages in September 2026; they are job-posting data, not a promise. The bigger driver is usage. Hands on a brand's own product page earn the session fee; the same hands on packaging, a billboard or a national TV spot earn a buyout on top. Our guide to how much print models get paid breaks a rate into its parts, and day rates and usage rights shows how to quote it.

Parts and beauty work

The same clients book faces, hair and skin

A skincare brand that books your hands for a cream may need a face for the serum next month, and a salon educator may need your hair. List every feature you can be booked for in one profile. Faces for cosmetics and tutorials are covered on makeup modeling jobs, hair on hair modeling jobs, and feet, legs and the rest of parts work in the parts modeling category. Product and catalog days in general are on print modeling.

Questions

Hand modeling, answered

How do I become a hand model?

Get your hands into booking condition first: natural nails grown out evenly with no polish, cared-for cuticles, moisturized skin and no fresh cuts. Then shoot close-up digitals in daylight holding everyday products, write down your ring and glove size, and publish them where clients search. Apply to a parts agency if you live in a city that has one.

What are the requirements to be a hand model?

Even, smooth skin, straight fingers in proportion to the palm, evenly shaped natural nails and hands that hold still for minutes at a time. Closeup Models, a parts agency, asks for no nail polish, no false nails, minimal hair on men's hands and applicants 18 or over. Height, weight and face do not matter.

How much do hand models make?

ZipRecruiter listings in September 2026 showed hand model postings at about $18 to $48 an hour and freelance hand modeling at $24 to $125 an hour. National ads pay more because of usage: the same hands on TV or packaging earn a buyout on top of the session fee. Most hand models earn it part time.

Do hand models need an agency?

No. National TV and print campaigns in New York and Los Angeles often go through parts agencies, but jewelry, e-commerce, food and product photography is commonly booked by the photographer or the brand directly. An agency adds access and negotiation for a commission. A direct profile adds reach everywhere else, with no cut.

Can men be hand models?

Yes. Watch, tool, technology, beverage and grooming clients book men's hands all year. They want clean, short nails, little hair on the back of the hand and a size that suits the product. Put your ring size and glove size on the profile so a watch or glove shoot can check the fit before it books you.

How do I get into hand modeling with no experience?

Nobody books hand experience; they book hands that photograph well and stay still. Shoot six clean close-ups against a plain background, practice holding a phone, a glass and a ring box steady for two minutes, and send your profile to product photographers in your city. A first paid day often comes from a photographer, not a brand.

What should a hand model portfolio include?

Six to ten unretouched close-ups in daylight: backs of both hands flat, palms, a side profile of the fingers, a fist, and your hands holding a small product, a phone and a glass. Add one shot of nails at their natural length. Skip rings, polish and filters. Clients want to see the hands they will get on set.

Are there hand modeling jobs near me?

Probably, but most are never posted. Product photographers, e-commerce studios, jewelers, nail and skincare brands and local ad agencies book hands a few days before a shoot, and they look for someone local. Being searchable by city and date is what puts you on that list. Agencies cover only a handful of large cities.
